A.  Simply put, the better the CUT, the more fire and brilliance produced by the diamond.  If a diamond is cut too thick, light will be lost through the sides of the diamond; if the cut is too shallow, light will be leak out the bottom of the diamond.  In addition to the proportions of the diamond, polish and symmetry contribute to the CUT of a diamond.
