A.  A star sapphire is dome shaped and shows a bright six-legged star in its dome.  It has been cut as a cabochon, that is, it has been shaped and polished instead of faceted, in order for light to reflect off of tiny inclusions (imperfections) inside the stone.  Intensity and attractiveness of body color as well as strength and crispness of the star define its value.
